Sustainability for the Watershed Management in Afghanistan: Example from Amu River Basin

نویسندگان

چکیده

The Amu River Basin, located in northeast Afghanistan, is the second largest basin. Therefore, a general concept of importance and value watershed management has been reviewed. Too little water at given time can be disaster (e.g., draughts), too much available same also tragedy form floods). Sustainable needs to have moderate flow, maintenance quality, mitigation flows minimize soil erosion, recharging groundwater, conservation recycling. This paper will help understand different elements aspects Afghanistan its interactions with technology, economics, institute, natural resources. contributing land linked people's livelihood.

Sustainability-Based Flood Hazard Mapping of the Swannanoa River Watershed

An integrated framework is presented for sustainability-based flood hazard mapping of the Swannanoa River watershed in the state of North Carolina, U.S. The framework uses a hydrologic model for rainfall–runoff transformation, a two-dimensional unsteady hydraulic model flood simulation and a GIS-based multi-criteria decision-making technique for flood hazard mapping. Economic, social, and envir...

Evolution of a Watershed-Management Framework in the Kentucky River Basin

Following an increased emphasis on watershed management by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the 1990s, the Kentucky Division of Water (KDOW) developed and implemented a watershed-management framework process for the state of Kentucky in 1997. The Kentucky Water Resources Research Institute (KWWRI) coordinated the first implementation of the framework process in the Kentucky Riv...

Digital Spatial Data as Support for River Basin Management: the Case of Sotla River Basin

Many real-world spatially related problems, including river-basin planning and management, give rise to geographical information system based decision making, since the performance of spatial policy alternatives were traditionally and are still often represented by thematic maps. Advanced technologies and approaches, such as geographical information systems (GIS), offer a unique opportunity to ...

Knowledge-based approaches for river basin management

Papers published in Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Discussions are under open-access review for the journal Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Abstract Rare attempts to use knowledge technologies and other relevant approaches are found in the river basin management. Some applications of expert systems as well as utilization of soft computing techniques (as neural networks or genetic algor...

River Basin Management with Spin

This paper presents de use of the Spin model checker as the core engine to build Decision Support Systems (DSSs) to control complex river basins during flood situations. Current DSSs in this domain are mostly based on simulators to predict the rainfall and the water flow along the river basin. In this paper, we propose a scheme that integrates simulators in the water domain with additional logi...
